I'm seriously not surprised about it.Though the developers haven't done a particularly great job, I think the main blame with this one mainly lies with the Codemasters management. I mean seriously, when the devs walked in and pitched the idea of a 4 player hack'n slash Diaoverlord, who in the management/branding team stood up and said 'That seems like a perfectly natural development for the Overlord franchise, I'm sure the fans will love it!' ?Yes Overlord was never a casual franchise and it is possible that it wasn't as successful as the publisher hoped, so they wante to redevelop the brand to make it more attractive. Still, of all the possibly imaginative ways to do that, they chose one which doesn't really appear like a logical development.I think it would have been interesting to see them see expand on the open world aspect (- Witcher 3, Assassins Creed) or include a casual skill system (Borderlands).
I even see lots of potential for Multiplayer (after all every Overlord wants to be the ultimate evil, right?) so a Dark Souls like option to invade each others worlds (or even customized towers) would seem like and option. Hell even fights with Heroes could have been worked in that way.But from all I've seen and read it appears like you've taken away lots of aspects that the core fanbase loved about the game and crammed it together with features that just don't want to be together, let alone develop them properly to a point where it's actually enjoyable. They've done their brand a massive disservice and whoever overlooked this and thought 'This rocks' should have realized that the fans would hate it (we've told you on your facebook site from the start in VERY clear words). Originally posted by:Not really, that article clearly states that they are focusing on racing games with 100% of their effort and their only studio not doing so is now closed down. The change of another Overlord game is at an all time low with that news. It really just means that there are smaller changes of Codemaster releasing a new Overlord game, ither a different studio would have to do the job like Triumph Studios or someone would have to buy the rights of the Overlord Franchise from Codemaster (not that they will have any use for it as of now).

Yeah, well sadly Game Developers are often simply braindead when it comes to seeing what the people who bought their previous games want.Instead of realizing that their Community loved the Overlord Games because of their features and therefore focusing on putting out new true Overlord titles because they know they're gonna sell they are now like 'oh hey we saw that you loved our Overlord Games, so we're gonna make a Diablo Clone', later on followed by 'What? You didn't buy our Diablo Clone? Then we're not gonna make anymore Overlord Games.' You didn't buy our Diablo Clone? Then we're not gonna make anymore Overlord Games.' :csdmeh: I guess it would depend on if said developers made a 'good' diablo clone or regurgitated on a spreadsheet. A decent clone might have added to the community (not likely but possible) a poorly made one however is probably worse than not putting anything out at all.
I mean did they even come close to breaking even on this game?EDIT/shrugs if your decision trees warped enough to think a bad, shoddily made D clone for an IP that is neither diablo or a MOBA = market success. I can see why a pub would blame the IP when(not if) it tanks, not the work they put into it. Garbage in/garbage out.
